Happy Thanksgiving!

The kids did a great job of writing and reading today. We also worked on
counting to 100 by 1s, 5s, and 10s. We also took down our fall
decorations so they will be coming home today. Talk to you again on
Monday and have a great long weekend!

Happy Friday

Today we worked on sounding out words, journaling, numbers nine and ten,
and had some fun with our reader pals. We have a very short week coming
up, so today's newsletter will be the last for two weeks. I hope that
the sick kiddos get better soon (we had five out today). Have a great
weekend!

Today we had a lot of absences due to illness. We had a class of 16! We
practiced sounding out words, wrote numbers 7 and 8 in our scarecrow
books, and made coffee filter turkeys. I hope more kids are feeling
better tomorrow!

We worked hard at writing quick words and sounding out words today. Your
child may come home with incorrect spellings on certain words. This is
perfectly okay; they will not learn how to misspell the words.
Kindergarten children need to sound spell for a period of time and then
slowly learn more tricks of the English language. They will spell
correctly before you know it! We also visited the computer lab and
talked more about being thankful. Have a great day!

Today we worked on sounds and the numbers 3 and 4. We also chose some
new books for our reading center, read a Thanksgiving story, and
journaled. We did not attend library today because of the book fair. We
will have it again next Tuesday, even though it is a very short week.
Have a great day!

We practiced our quick words and sounds today. We are also reviewing
numbers 1-10 for another week. Our turkeys we made today turned out
quite cute. We will talk about being thankful this week as well as next
week. There will not be library again tomorrow, but we will get back
into it next week. Have a great day!

Have a great weekend!

Today, we worked on sounds and numbers. We will continue with our number
writing next week. The reader pals stopped by and wrote Turkey Stories
with the kids (they will be in their folders today). The kids are
getting really good at copying sentences. We will now start sounding
more words out and I will be spelling less for them. If you see words
spelled incorrectly (except for quick words) it is okay. I just call it
kindergarten spelling. Have a great weekend!

Conference Night

Today, we worked on some more scarecrow projects to decorate our school.
We also practiced sounds and numbers, read a dinosaur book about school,
and watched the Magic School Bus. Tomorrow is already Friday (wow!) so
we will be visiting our reader pals and continuing our usual work. Have
a great evening!

The kids did a great job of looking at books at the book fair. We talk
about how they don't get to take anything home today, but that they can
look and see the different books. We also went to the computer lab and
worked on sounds and numbers. Have a great day!

Terrific Tuesday

Today we split into our reading groups and worked on number writing in
math. We watched the book fair video and the kids are getting excited to
visit the fair tomorrow. We did not have library today, so books are not
due until next Tuesday. Have a great day!

Today, we worked on letter and sound 'Q' as well as numbers to 10. We
visited the computer lab and wrote in our journals. As of now, we are
copying sentences in our journals and not spelling our own words. For
instance, today I wrote "I have a ___" on the board and the kids copied
the sentence and filled in the blank with one of the following choices:
cat, dog, fish, toy. In the upcoming weeks, the kids will begin spelling
words on their own with a focus on sounds and not the proper spelling.
We will not visit the library tomorrow due to the book fair. We will
check out books on the 18th. Have a great day!

Fantastic Friday!

Today, the kids worked on the sounds (including the tricky 'Y' sound).
We counted and talked about 'more' and 'less' during math. We colored a
few scarecrows today and also ready a scarecrow book. With reader pals,
the kids completed a math book called "Birds". Have a wonderful and SAFE
weekend and talk to you again on Monday!

Today, we practiced our sounds and the number 10. We also made pattern
corn to celebrate harvest (these are hanging on our walls at school).

What a Wednesday!

Today, we worked on numbers 8 and 9. We also practiced sounds and
visited the computer lab. The new unit for the next few weeks is
harvest. Today we talked about what foods might be harvested this time
of year.

Election Day!

Today, we voted in our school election. Obama won the school election so
now the kids are anxious to see the results of the real election. We
also went to the library and practiced quick words. Have a great day!
